Extreme Networks (EXTR) is the latest company to join the VMware NSX partner ecosystem, enabling customers to use its network switches on the NSX network virtualization platform.
The compatibility between Extreme Network’s Summit Series switches and the NSX platform is expected to help the company’s customers and resellers better manage and control their software-defined data centers and garner additional business opportunities, according to the announcement.
“Interoperability between our switch platform and VMware NSX means new market opportunities for Extreme Networks’ channel partners, which in turn, enables customers to realize the benefits of the software-defined data center,” said Eric Broockman, chief technology officer and executive vice president of Engineering at Extreme Networks, in a statement.
The NSX platform acts as a way to virtualize network services, enabling partners to provide customers with an expanded portfolio of network automation, security and operation services for physical and virtual network management, according to VMware.
Extreme Networks will display its NSX compatible switches next week during VMworld 2015 in San Francisco.
“Our objective with VMware NSX extensibility is to realize the promise of network virtualization itself—empowering customers to speed the rate of innovation through faster network provisioning, enhanced security and reduced complexity—which results in better, faster and more cost-effective IT services,” said Howard Hall, senior director, Global Technology Partner Organization at VMware.
In other VMware partner news, IT solution provider Exabridge recently earned network virtualization solution competency from VMware, allowing it to sell the company’s NSX solutions to its customers.
