ZyXEL Communications, the ‘complete solution’ guys we’ve been talking about for a while now, have another notch to put in their belt. They’ve joined the Panasonic Solution Developer Network (PSDN). The move signals networking and video surveillance further converging. Intrigued…?

Basically, the alliance merges the technology from the two network-savvy manufacturers for “quality of service of the CCTV video streams at the core of the network” and provide power over Rthernet with IP surveillance infrastructure. Products mentioned were the Panasonic i-Pro series, and ZyXEL’s enterprise switches.

The big to-do about the fancy surveillance club is that the PSDN looks for professional hardware that can stand up to the “mission-critical security applications” where down time is unacceptable.

Panasonic’s i-Pro Series family includes:

  • PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom camera)

  • Vandal-proof capabilities

  • Fixed and mini- dome cameras

  • Network video recorders

  • Video servers and more

ZyXEL’s networking portfolio has been called a ‘compliment’ to Panasonic’s hardware, due in part to ZyXEL’s Layer 3 Core Switch which can handle the CCTV camera streams, power over Ethernet (for connection to the camera), and of course, wireless LAN for smaller deployments. There’s also firewall security for campus connectivity and secure remote monitoring.
