Maybe you’ve heard “instant virtualization” in passing, but you’ve never truly understood the meaning behind the term — that’s where this article comes in.

Norwalk, Connecticut-based data backup and disaster recovery (BDR) Datto on Wednesday released a video to take managed services providers (MSPs) through the steps of how instant virtualization can assist businesses (their customers).

If you’re looking for some quick points, here’s the breakdown:

  • The local device takes a backup of your entire system at regular intervals.

  • It constantly updates, validates and stores image-based backup files as VMDKs (which contains all software operating systems and files from your computer).

  • If your system fails, the backup device recognizes the errors and retrieves the image-based backup immediately.

  • Then you can instantly access your entire backup on another machine and boot from a local device.

  • After that, regular backups continue.

To learn more about instant virtualization, and how you can provide it to customers, take a look at the video (it’s only a little over a minute long).
