PRESS RELEASE — Santa Clara, CA. – June 28, 2016 Cohesity, the pioneer of hyperconverged secondary storage, today announced new 3.0 releases of its DataProtect and DataPlatform products that expand data protection to physical servers, enable faster recover times, and double performance levels of its distributed, scale- out data platform. Building on its strength in protecting virtualized environments, the 3.0 products make it even easier and more cost-effective for enterprises to consolidate fragmented secondary storage workloads into Cohesity’s intelligent, web-scale storage system.

As data continues to grow at exponential rates, companies have struggled to maintain control over a sprawling landscape of secondary storage point solutions that waste resources with redundant data copies for use cases such as backup, test/dev, file services, and analytics. Cohesity 3.0 extends the value of the company’s hyperconverged secondary storage platform, which offers a radically efficient solution to fragmented data siloes by unifying all secondary use cases on a single, infinitely scalable platform.{ad}
“Cohesity’s latest software update adds protection for physical servers, source-side dedupe, and app- consistent recovery for MS SQL databases which can further help customers reduce their dependency on legacy backup approaches,” said Henry Baltazar, Research Director for Storage at 451 Research. “Furthermore, as hybrid clouds become more of a market reality, organizations may require the granular search capabilities and object-level recovery provided by Cohesity to accelerate use of public cloud services. Lastly, the new REST APIs introduced by Cohesity can also help customers manage their data protection jobs using their existing orchestration tools.”
“With Cohesity 3.0, we continue to double down on our mission to bring greater efficiency and simplicity to the secondary storage landscape,” said Cohesity CEO and Founder Mohit Aron. “We continue our focus to extend protection to new areas of the data center and improve overall speed and performance, so that customers can realize even greater value from hyperconverged secondary storage.”
Cohesity DataPlatform 3.0 delivers improved VMware backup performance with parallel ingest across cluster nodes for individual VMs. In addition, the 3.0 release doubles IOPS and throughput performance for file access. Cohesity is also introducing a new proactive monitoring service that will analyze and recommend preventative maintenance actions for DataPlatform installations.
Cohesity DataProtect 3.0 extends the reach of its data protection coverage to include physical Windows and Linux servers, in addition to today’s complete offering for backing up virtual server environments, enabling faster backup and recovery times. Furthermore, DataProtect 3.0 can perform app-aware Windows server backups, which ensure 100 percent consistent point-in- time restores for Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server. Cohesity DataProtect also features source-side dedupe for accelerated database backups.
Cohesity also unveiled new orchestration and automation capabilities that will eliminate error-prone, manual workflows for data protection and dev-test operations. Using built-in REST APIs, customers can manage Cohesity DataProtect and DataPlatform with existing data center administration tools. Cohesity also announced new functionality that bolsters its hybrid cloud strategy, with granular object-level recovery from images stored in public cloud archives, accelerating the process for locating and restoring specific objects from the cloud.
“Cohesity’s intelligent data platform simplifies our VM backups and replication,” said Ultimate Software Senior Manager of Core Infrastructure Mark Avery. “By consolidating our entire backup environment into a single system, we now have one simple and powerful, policy-driven interface to manage end-to- end data protection for our extensive virtual infrastructure. Furthermore, with Cohesity CloudArchive we can now easily and safely leverage public cloud services for long-term retention of our critical corporate data.”
Cohesity’s new 3.0 versions of its products will be available to customers within 90 days.
