IP communications provider Global Crossing has tapped Juniper Networks to help in its effort to provide a more robust managed services offering. Here are the details.Global Crossing is now supporting Juniper’s J Series services routers, M Series multiservice edge routers and SRX Series Services Gateways, according to the company. That means customers looking for the whole managed network services package from Global Crossing – hardware and services – now have the option of choosing Juniper technology over that of Cisco Systems, Global Crossing’s other hardware provider for managed network services.
GC also plans to use Juniper in its own network, enhancing its managed network services offering with Juniper’s WXC Series application acceleration platforms for WAN optimization. WAN optimization uses compression and caching technology that increases data transmission speed by eliminating redundant transmissions – a must for enterprise networks.
Win-Win?
The Global Crossing/Juniper Networks relationship is positive on many levels. It partners Global Crossing with a well-known and well-respected network infrastructure provider, giving GC an automatic edge over its competitors. For Juniper, adding another IP communications provider to its stable of partners speaks directly to what Frank Vitagliano, senior vice president, Worldwide Channels said are two critical components of Juniper’s strategy for 2010 – the emphasis on solutions selling over product selling and a greater visibility to the world at large.
“We want the businesspeople and IT people to know who Juniper is. We have that kind of cache with folks who know us and use our equipment. We want to reach that next level,” Vitagliano said in a recent interview.
Global Crossing’s partners also reap the benefits of the deal, providing them not only with a deeper managed services offering but also one that is more robust. Such a combination can be the differentiator in the increasing landscape of managed services offerings.
