HPE DISCOVER — HPE just took the wraps off its new mission-critical storage platform – HPE Primera – calling it a new class of storage that leverages the simplicity of HPE Nimble storage, AI from HPE Infosight, and the mission-critical heritage of the company’s 3PAR storage system.

HPE Primera boasts a simple user experience, guaranteed 100% availability and high performance designed to accelerate the speed of business, agility and innovation.

“IT has been tied down, especially in mission-critical environments, and has had to make a tradeoff between agility and resiliency,” said Sandeep Singh, vice president, storage marketing at HPE. “What if you could have a storage system that manages itself, could predict and prevent application disruptions, that could allow you to have mission-critical reliability and performance to consolidate without risk? When we looked across our portfolio, we thought, ‘There’s something that we can do about this.’”

Singh addressed Primera’s key points of value beginning with the customer experience – much of the Primera experience – installation, management and upgrades that HPE call “consumer grade.” As for delivery options, in keeping with HPE’s pay-for-use strategy, businesses can opt to deploy HPE Primera through GreenLake. Or, customers can choose Timeless Storage for HPE Primera, a capex purchase option that includes non-disruptive controller refresh, all-inclusive software and storage guarantees for data reduction and availability, eliminating the dreaded forklift upgrade.

The next area of value for HPE Primera is availability. The new storage platform comes with Proactive Care and a standard 100% availability guarantee. HPE Infosight comes into play to predict and prevent disruptions at the networking, application and server levels. HPE Recovery Manager Center is included for application-aware data protection and combines with HPE StoreOnce for fast restores, and for long-term data retention in the public cloud, the system uses HPE Cloud Bank Storage.

There’s no room for compromise when it comes to mission-critical applications. Here’s were HPE Infosight comes into play, offering visibility to optimize workload placement and real-time analytics that are embedded in the array to maintain predictable performance.

Milan Shetti, senior vice president and general manager, HPE storage and big data, talked about the vision for HPE storage, and the new HPE Primera.

“The core pillar of what we’re doing in storage is grounded by a simple philosophy — and that is, intelligence changes everything. Intelligence is about learning from your surroundings, and when you learn from your surroundings, you can deliver a better experience,” he said. “The vision for HPE storage is that we want to organize the complex and unpredictable workloads of the world by using intelligence.”

HPE is driving innovation in its storage portfolio with its intelligent-data strategy, with HPE Infosight, AI for infrastructure, at the core.
