Simone Brunozzi leaves Amazon for VMware

Simone Brunozzi has left his role as global technology evangelist at Amazon (AMZN) for a new position at VMware (VMW), where he will take on the position of VMware vCloud Hybrid Service VP and chief technologist for the company’s Hybrid Cloud Service.

VMware announced Brunozzi’s appointment last week in a blog post, saying the former Amazon evangelist will serve as the company’s “subject matter expert” in all things related to the hybrid cloud. Brunozzi will work with VMware to help its customers and partners to transition to more hybrid cloud-focused services.

“The position I was offered is both a challenge and an opportunity for me: new types of customers (more enterprise, less SMBs and startups), different ways to adopt and buy services, different barriers and incentives at play, and ultimately different players in the game,” wrote Brunozzi in a blog post. “It’s an opportunity to learn many new things, and try to prove myself again.”

Brunozzi had worked at Amazon since 2008, where he served in various evangelical roles to promote the company’s Amazon Web Services division in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Brunozzi is the third high-level technology executive hired by VMware this year, including new global CTO Ben Bathi and CTO for the Americas Chris Wolf, according to an article in Datacenter Dynamics.

“VMware is a young company, growing fast and reinventing itself,” wrote Brunozzi in his post. “You can see the signs all around, it’s like … An old city suddenly enjoying a gold rush: old buildings are replaced by shiny new ones, streets become busier than ever, and you feel that vibration all around you.”

Brunozzi’s appointment is yet another step in the company’s march to expand its cloud services to more enterprise users as well as to continue its momentum in the growing hybrid cloud market. VMware’s hybrid cloud service is now available in the United States and Europe.

Brunozzi has promised to blog often about upcoming hybrid cloud news, so stay tuned for more information on his new role in the weeks to come.
