Apprenda Acquires Kismatic to Add Enterprise Kubernetes Support
The acquisition comes a couple of months after Apprenda announced that it would integrate Kubernetes.
Private PaaS provider Apprenda announced on Thursday that it has acquired Kismatic, a company that provides enterprise support and production tooling for Kubernetes. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition comes a couple of months after it announced that it would integrate Kubernetes as the underlying cluster manager for Docker-based workloads deployed to Apprenda. Apprenda will complete the integration of Kubernetes in its upcoming releases.
“As we started venturing into Kubernetes, it became obvious that Kismatic could help accelerate our journey and to be even more aggressive in our goals for the Apprenda platform. This made the acquisition a logical conclusion,” Sinclair Schuller, CEO of Apprenda said in a blog post.
As part of the acquisition Kismatic CEO Patrick Reilly will join Apprenda as corporate CTO.
“Given Patrick’s strengths, and the importance of Kubernetes to our architecture, owning technical strategy at Apprenda is a natural outcome for Patrick and Apprenda. We can’t wait to see what Patrick accomplishes in his new role,” Schuller said.
Apprenda said Kismatic’s work on Kubernetes helps early adopter developers with tooling and support.
“The way we’re building our support will allow an Apprenda instance to ‘attach’ itself to a running Kubernetes cluster, assuming control of that cluster and using it as the underlying resource pool,” Schuller explained. “The Apprenda scheduler will manage Kubernetes clusters along with pools of Windows and Linux servers dedicated to existing, non-container based workloads. Kismatic has been building out tooling as enterprise extensions to Kubernetes.”
According to Apprenda, new customers can choose from an expanded set of standard services to help them with Kubernetes.
