Arizona Regulators Approve CenturyLink-Qwest Merger

The companies are still awaiting FCC approval and regulatory clearance in three states.

The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved the pending merger between CenturyLink Inc. and Qwest Communications.

The companies committed to investing at least $70 million in broadband infrastructure in Arizona over five years, Qwest said in a press release.  

Monroe, La.-based CenturyLink and Denver-based Qwest still need Federal Communications Commission approval as well as regulatory clearance in Minnesota, Oregon and Washington.

In its fourth-quarter earnings announcement, CenturyLink revealed that it anticipates closing its acquisition of Qwest on April 1.
