Charter Communications Offloads Navisite to RDX

RDX, a provider of database infrastructure, data management and cloud management services, is acquiring Navisite, the managed cloud service provider, from Charter Communications.

Backed by private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners, RDX will own and operate Navisite assets including client relationships, employees who support the Navisite business, fixed assets, leases and Navisite-operated facilities. Financial details of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

Gina Murphy, RDX’s president and COO, tells Channel Partners her company’s mission is to become the single source of managed IT services with a global delivery model across all environments. The combination of RDX, its recent two acquisitions of clckwrk and ClearDB, and now Navisite, creates a “globally scaled service provider with an extremely broad set of services — from private to public cloud support, managed infrastructure and applications services,” she said.

“Additionally, this transaction will allow Navisite to focus on executing on its long history of providing complex managed and application services support to midmarket and enterprise customers without being linked to what may have been competing priorities and initiatives from a larger parent company,” she said. “RDX works with a small number of channel partners today that both resell our services and/or leverage them as part of their value-add to their customers to enhance their service offering. Similar to the Navisite partners, we will now have additional services that the RDX channel and partners can take advantage of with their prospects.”

The transaction is expected to close within the next few weeks.

RDX provides managed services to hundreds of clients, both on premises and in the public cloud. It supports a wide range of cloud environments including Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and Oracle DB Cloud; database environments including Oracle, SQL Server, MYSQL, PostgreSQL, DB2 and MongoDB; and operating systems including Windows and all major UNIX/Linux offerings.

“This combined organization fills a gap below the multibillion-dollar IT service providers and the smaller players in this space that midmarket-to-enterprise customers are looking for, especially in terms of a group that can be nimble, flexible and fast in its ability to react to customer needs with a highly skilled workforce,” Murphy said.
