Polycom is keeping up its momentum with UC news as of late, and its most recent newsworthy announcement is the company’s acquisition of Accordent Technologies. Polycom is scooping up Accordent for its video content management expertise and its video-delivery solutions. What’s the deal behind the strategic buy? Here’s what Polycom is looking to get of this $50 million cash transaction …
Polycom’s acquisition of Accordent Technologies gives the UC vendor the technology to integrate video content management and delivery into Polycom’s open-standards UC Intelligent Core. Accordent’s solutions will allow for rich webcasting and streaming, and can help Polycom proliferate in its desired markets faster. Video communications that is faster, better and ubiqutious is an ongoing theme, and Accordent’s technology apparently not only provides this, but is seen as future-ready by Polycom, since the vendor cites research from Wainhouse Research that projects the video market will grow 32 percent through 2014 and be a $1.2 billion market.
Meanwhile, Accordent will maintain its 50-employee company in Southern California and report in to Polycom’s UC research and development origination. Since Accordent has a software-centric solution, it will find its way into the UC Intelligent Core and thus will be reported with Polycom’s Network Infrastructure revenues.
