Quantum Adds Symform's Cloud Services Platform, Development Team
Quantum (QTM) yesterday announced it has acquired Symform's cloud storage services platform.
San Jose, California-based data storage provider Quantum (QTM) has acquired Symform‘s cloud storage services platform.
Quantum said it plans to leverage Symform’s technology to expand its cloud software capabilities and service offerings in data protection and scale-out storage.
“We will be integrating Symform software and our platforms to create simple, very cost-effective cloud service options,” Quantum CEO Jon Gacek said in a prepared statement.
Quantum also will hire Symform’s development team, including co-founder Bassam Tabbara, to help create and launch new cloud services.
“The technology and talent we’ve acquired from Symform will enable us to augment [our] offerings and address a broader range of customer needs, as well as provide enhanced service options to the existing Symform user base,” Gacek added.
What is Symform?
Here are three things to know about Seattle-based cloud storage and backup service provider Symform:
Symform offers a free cloud storage and backup service with up to 10 GB of space.
At least 45,000 users across 170 countries currently leverage Symform’s cloud storage service.
The company began offering its cloud services in 2009 and recently introduced the fourth generation of its software.
Symform “is known for its extremely simple deployment and ease of use,” Quantum said, and the platform acquisition will provide Quantum customers with:
Flexible options for cloud storage
Internet access to files from any device and any location
Web-based, centralized management of all cloud components
Quantum said it intends to enhance the Symform service with new features and options to help customers “meet their most demanding data storage needs in physical, virtual and cloud environments.”
