The Doyle Report: Kaseya Opens Connect Conference with Acquisition, Competitive Win

Brought to you by MSPmentor

Managing public clouds just got a whole lot easier thanks to Kaseya’s acquisition of Unigma and the release of the Unigma Cloud Management Suite. Unigma will remain an independent Kaseya company and founder, Kirill Bensonoff, a contributor to Penton’s Talkin’ Cloud, will serve as CEO and as product manager of the Unigma Cloud Management Suite.

The news comes as Kaseya kicks of its annual customer conference, Connect, this week in Las Vegas.

With the addition of the Unigma Cloud Management Suite, which Kaseya and Unigma have been working collaboratively to develop for the last year, MSPs who manage their customer’s public cloud investments will have new tools to “automate routine tasks, and optimize cost management through detailed cloud utilization analysis,” according to Kaseya. This includes workloads running in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google clouds.

In a release, Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola calls Unigma the leading unified public cloud management solution for MSPs and says he is thrilled to demonstrate the general availability of the Cloud Management Suite in Las Vegas for the first time. More than simply helping MSPs manage their customer’s investments into public clouds, it also helps them simplify billing and save money. At its core, the Unigma Cloud Management Suite includes three components. They are:

  • Cloud Manager, which is a dashboard that enables users to monitor AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure instances. With Cloud Manager, MSPs can automate routine public cloud tasks and schedule maintenance more efficiently.

  • Cloud Billing Manager, which helps MSPs produce detailed reports to effectively invoice customers based on their actual cloud usage.

  • Cloud Cost Optimizer, which yields detailed cost insights to help customers improve overall cost management.

From a competitive standpoint, the Unigma Cloud Management Suite enhances Kaseya’s attempt to build the industry’s most robust and comprehensive suite of systems and cloud management solutions known as Kaseya IT Complete, which already includes Traverse, a network performance monitoring and management technology.

Kaseya has been building out its capabilities, management team and partner capabilities since the company was acquired by Insight Venture Partners in 2013. Since then, Kaseya has acquired Zyrion, a business service management solutions company; Scorpion Software, a developer of identity management technology; and Vorex, a developer of business management solutions.

Where does the latest acquisition leave Kaseya, which announced record corporate growth in 2016? In a truly unique, competitive position, says Voccola, who will sit down 1:1 in-person with MSPmentor on Wednesday.

Ever the competitor, Kaseya, which announced the hiring of longtime MSP advocate, practitioner and Penton Xpert contributor Jim Lippie last week, kicked off the Connect event with a shot across the bow of one of its top rivals, ConnectWise. (If you’re not familiar with the rivalry between the two companies, you can get a pretty good sense of the intensity from this series of articles, which were exclusives to MSPmentor.) At Connect, Kaseya announced that The 20, a Plano, Texas, MSP, switched from ConnectWise to Kaseya. The new features and capabilities of Kaseya technology made the decision a “no-brainer,” says Tim Conkle, CEO of The 20.
