Boomi, a Dell Technologies business, is acquiring Unifi Software, which provides data discovery, catalog and preparation offerings built on a cloud technology stack.

Boomi said the acquisition expands its integration and data management platform. Unifi’s capabilities will help Boomi customers uncover and derive insights from known and unknown enterprise data using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The deal is expected to close in the near future, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

Ed Macosky, Boomi‘s senior vice president of product, UX and solutions, tells us the acquisition accelerates Boomi’s enterprise strategy by providing scalable extract, transform and load (ETL) functionality and support for enterprise-level machine learning (ML) and AI initiatives.

“Additionally, our partners can now provide customers with accelerated time to business outcomes when embarking on projects to consolidate enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, a unified customer 360 profile, compliance, audience analytics, customer-retention analysis and more,” he said. “For example, with automation and intelligence, Unifi’s technology allows users to predict the context of the data in order to discover where data resides, understand its structure and meaning, provide a level of trust in the quality of the data, and gives them the capabilities to ingest the data into data lakes, business systems and AI projects.”

The acquisition gives Boomi and its partners a distinct competitive advantage, Macosky said.

“With the growth of multicloud, edge and hybrid IT, managing data has become an enormous challenge for enterprises,” he said. “To have all that capability on one platform, there is no other platform that does so. Some competitors may provide discovery and cataloging, [and] some preparation, but not all three. This will help us put our best foot forward at the start of joint customer projects, particularly for companies with large volumes of data. Boomi will not only provide foundational core, but will be able to help customers find additional value with the data and help with exploration of the data.”

Unifi’s partners will be able to take advantage of Boomi’s integration and data management platform, Macosky said.

“The Unifi team has worked hard during the past few years to create the leading intelligent data preparation and catalog platform, identified as such by industry analysts, and we’re thrilled that Boomi has recognized our leadership,” said Sean Keenan, Unifi’s co-founder and vice president of product.
