Cisco is acquiring Lightspin Technologies, a cloud security software company in Israel.

Lightspin’s solution provides end-to-end cloud security posture management (CSPM) across cloud-native resources. According to CTech, Cisco is shelling out $200 million to $250 million for the company.

Cisco also is acquiring Valtix, a multicloud network security platform as a service, to increase its cloud security capabilities.

Vijoy Pandey, Cisco’s senior vice president of engineering, emerging technologies and incubation, said it’s vital that Cisco’s cloud security investments reflect the growing needs of its customers.

Lightspin takes a unique approach to contextualized cloud-security coverage, using graph-based technology to deliver key context, prioritization and remediation recommendations,” he said.

Cisco and Lightspin are aligned with a common goal, Pandey said. That’s to help customers modernize their cloud environments with end-to-end security and observability from build to runtime.

Cisco Continually Investing in Cloud Security

Over the past 18 months, Cisco has continuously invested in its cloud-native technologies portfolio, Pandey said. That’s across cloud security, connectivity and observability.

“With the addition of Lightspin, customers will be able to identify, prioritize and remediate critical cloud security risks without the hassle of extensive configuration requirements,” he said. “Alongside these emerging cloud-native technologies, customers also need the right expertise with a deep understanding of the evolving critical attack paths, attack surfaces and vulnerabilities that could impact their businesses.”

There is no impact or change to partners at this point, according to Cisco. More information about how Cisco and Lightspin will come together will be available after the close of the acquisition.

The Lightspin team has extensive technical expertise in cloud security, product development and SaaS security products, Pandey said.

Cisco and Lightspin have a shared commitment to helping their customers secure their critical data, applications and infrastructure, he said.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the innovative team from Lightspin to Cisco,” Pandey said. “When the acquisition closes, they will join the emerging technologies and incubation (ET&I) business as we advance new and emerging technologies that connect to Cisco’s mission of powering an inclusive future for all.”
