Broadvoice last month released a suite of hosted communication and collaboration services to extend its business voice service. The Los Angeles-based hosted voice and data products provider launched the Broadvoice Unified Communications Suite to help businesses become more productive and efficient.
Vonage (VG) in March said it would acquire Dana Point, California-based unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS) provider SimpleSignal for $25.25 million, approximately 1.5 times SimpleSignal's estimated 2015 revenues. Alan Masarek, Vonage's CEO, noted that the SimpleSignal acquisition "further positions Vonage as a leader in unified communications."
Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) in April announced it would acquire Chicago-based managed security service provider (MSSP) Trustwave for $810 million. Singtel supports more than 500 million mobile customers worldwide, and the Trustwave acquisition could help this Asian communications company capitalize on a rapidly expanding managed security services market.
Ericsson (ERIC) and Intel Security in April announced an agreement that would enable telecom operators to bundle managed security solutions with the existing services they provide to enterprises. Ericsson said that telecom operators are able to offer managed security solutions "to support their enterprise clients in protecting valuable intellectual property, data, devices and identities."
Verizon (VZ) announced that its customers would be able to reap the rewards of a software-defined networking (SDN) architecture. The telecommunications giant in April said it would launch an SDN architecture "to introduce new operational efficiencies and allow for the enablement of rapid and flexible service delivery to [its] customers."
8×8 (EGHT) launched a cloud-based contact center solution that enables organizations to manage their global call centers through a single platform. The UC and contact center solutions provider in May released 8×8 Virtual Contact Center (VCC) Global, which connects an organization's international agents "over a single platform with integrated presence, multilingual chat with automatic translation, call routing, reporting and management."
Is BlackBerry (BBRY) planning to use Google (GOOG) software in its smartphones for the first time? The mobile communications giant reportedly is considering incorporating Android software into some of its smartphones, unnamed sources told Reuters last month. In addition, the sources noted that using the Android operating system is part of BlackBerry's strategy to focus on software and device management.
AT&T (T) this month announced it would provide discounted Internet services to low-income consumers if the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approves its DirecTV (DTV) acquisition. The telecommunications giant recently outlined two discounted Internet service plans it would offer for four years, according to an FCC regulatory filing. After that time, the subsidized pricing would expire.
Nokia (NOK) in April announced plans to acquire Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) in an all-share transaction valued at approximately $16.6 billion. Each company's board of directors approved the terms of the proposed transaction, which is expected to close in the first half of next year.
Microsoft (MSFT) this month said it would offer "a complete, enterprise-grade communications solution at global scale as part of Office 365." The technology giant announced that Office 365 enterprise customers can download preview versions of new Skype for Business services. Microsoft also said it plans to deliver direct connections to Office 365 Skype for Business customers later this year through Azure ExpressRoute for Office 365.
