It doesnt have the catchiest name for a smartphone, but the price might reel you in.

You can now pick up the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 from AT&T for just $149.99 after a rebate and a two-year service agreement. Thats a little less than many new smartphones will run you, but thats probably because it runs Android OS 1.6. Many smartphones already come with version 2.1 and are in the process of upgrading to 2.2, also known as Froyo. Sony Ericsson says you should see an upgrade to 2.1 by the end of September.

Key features of the new phone include:

  • 4-inch touchscreen

  • Mediascape: An intelligent media player that stores music, videos, photos and online photos all in one place. Also includes music links to YouTube.

  • Timescape: A place to easily manage your social life, with Twitter, Facebook, e-mail and more in what the company calls an animated deck-of-cards format.”

  • 8.1 Megapixel Camera: Might be one of the sharpest out there, and it also shoots video. Features include auto-scene detection, face detection and recognition, smile detection and touch focus.

This is old news to you if youre in Europe, where its already available. AT&T is the first carrier in the U.S. to sell it.
