Mobile device management (MDM) software vendor AirWatch has updated its mobile content management (MCM) solution, Secure Content Locker to include personal content storage, desktop sync, secure link sharing and FIPS-140-2-validated encryption and the ability to incorporate features during app development. How does this solution update affect the channel? We’ll reveal the answer, along with the updates made to the company’s solution.

The deployment of Secure Content Locker can executed as a standalone solution or part of the integrated AirWatch enterprise mobility platform. Data, both personal and corporate, can be stored in the cloud, on-premise, or in a hybrid environment.

According to the company, the following updates work to improve security, data loss prevention (DLP), and business functionality:

  • enforce DLP at the app level by managing which content can be opened in SCL;

  • allow apps or links to access content in SCL to open to a specific page or time in a video;

  • restrict opening links to SCL or AirWatch Secure Browser;

  • encrypt email attachments; control access and editing capabilities for each folder and sub-folder;

  • deploy on-premise, in the cloud or use a hybrid approach;

  • manage telecom cost through content syncing controls for cellular and Wi-Fi; and

  • protect content with FIPS-140-2-validated AES-256 bit encryption.

AirWatch Global Head of Public Relations Victor Cooper told MSPmentor via email that this solution enables managed services providers (MSPs) to offer more than just MDM.

“It allows them to sell content management when they sell MDM or as an add-on to existing customers,” he said. “A lot of the focus for channel has been on MDM, but we see real opportunity both in direct and channel sales with mobile content management.”

Cooper added that approximately 40 percent of AirWatch’s sales are indirect.

AirWatch CEO John Marshall said in a prepared statement that many solutions in the market today have technology and functionality gaps.

“Our comprehensive enterprise mobility management platform allows customers to secure every piece of corporate content on mobile devices, while providing the tools employees need for easy collaboration and information sharing,” he added.

Pricing for the solution is based on the partner level of an AirWatch MSP, Cooper said.

IT research firm Gartner, Inc. (IT) placed AirWatch into the Leaders quadrant in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant report for mobile device management (MDM) 2013.

The news follows on a recent announcement from AirWatch that it has earmarked new venture capital funding to pay for an acceleration of global growth, an expansion of the research and development team and increase support for innovation and sales of the company’s content collaboration solution.
