Aperto Networks, which develops WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, announced today a marketing relationship with EDX Wireless LLC to offer a network planning tool to WiMAX service providers to help them design, deploy and optimize their WiMAX networks.

EDX Wireless’ planning tool, EDX SignalPro, is a software package with specialized modules and customizable features that can be individually tailored to meet a WiMAX service provider’s specific needs.

The partnership, which includes co-marketing, training and product integration, strengthens Aperto’s relationships with its customers by enhancing Aperto’s in-house network-planning service. Under the relationship, Aperto will broaden its use of SignalPro for its in-house network planning and continue to endorse its use by network planning professionals and WiMAX carriers.

“Our partnership with EDX Wireless is the latest in a series of WiMAX ecosystem announcements,” said Manish Gupta, vice president of marketing and alliances for Aperto Networks.

Aperto engineers have been using EDX SignalPro for wireless network planning purposes in conjunction with Aperto Networks’ WiMAX-class PacketWAVE equipment and will now be using the equipment in conjunction with the rollout of Aperto’s PacketMAX-enabled networks.

With Aperto system parameters loaded into SignalPro, the tool is an intuitive and accurate predictor of how PacketWAVE and PacketMAX networks will perform in various RF conditions, the companies said.
