Aruba Networks Unveils Wireless Solutions Aimed at POS Space
January 18, 2012
Who knew the National Retail Federation Convention would be such a hit in 2012? As point-of-sale (POS) solutions increasingly are becoming mobile, the needs of a business network are becoming more complex, so naturally, Aruba Networks has a few solutions to help. Aruba Networks understands that smarpthone and tablet POS solutions need to be reliable and secure. That’s why the company has teamed up with Infinite Peripherals and LightSpeed to offer a solution that suits those needs exactly. Infinite Peripherals, the same company that provided Apple with their iPod Touch POS outfits, is offering the Linea-Pro barcode scanner. LightSpeed, meanwhile, brings its very sexy LightSpeed Mobile app, an iOS POS application that uniquely links up with Aruba’s MOVE technology. MOVE will provide location-based policy enforcement capabilities in addition to traffic prioritization — paramount for shared Wi-Fi connections at any retail location.
Why Aruba’s focus on wireless POS at this very moment? Simple: demand. More than half of the respondents of an Aruba Networks survey of more than 130 retail IT leaders said they plan to upgrade their in-store Wi-Fi in 2012 to accommodate mobile POS and other “advanced applications.” Almost 60 percent of those respondents said they’d be using iPads and nearly 40 percent see iPhones as the right tool for staff. Such surveys only serve to boost the idea that now is the time for networking VARs to consider adding mobile device management to their services portfolio.
