AT&T Inc. knows when to double down: The Samsung BlackJack and BlackJack II have been the best-selling Windows Mobile devices out there. And next week, the carrier will update the franchise with the launch of the simply named “Jack.”

It might have a shorter name than the retiring BlackJack II, but the Samsung Jack will be long in functionality. It will be optimized for texting, instant messaging and e-mail like its predecessors, and will have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with native AT&T Navigator, and video-capture.

An upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 this fall will give users access to Outlook Mobile to synch up with calendars and contacts, Internet Explorer and Office Mobile for working with documents.

No word yet on pricing, but it hits shelves May 19.
