Barracuda Unleashes Updated SSL VPN for Mobile Devices

Cloud-connected security and storage solutions provider Barracuda Networks has released Barracuda SSL VPN version 2.5, giving employees improved remote access to internal web applications and files from any mobile device without having to deploy or support a full VPN client. The update includes a new mobile portal that allows remote workers to securely access internal enterprise applications from their mobile devices.

"The diversity of iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile platforms in use in typical 'bring your own device' environments can make supporting VPN and remote access challenging," said Stephen Pao, general manager of Security at Barracuda, in a prepared statement. "The latest release of the Barracuda SSL VPN is designed to provide an optimized mobile user experience, making it easy for IT administrators to offer their users secure, modern and cloud-like access to internal web applications and files without the overhead of enterprise app stores or enterprise mobile device management platforms."

According to Barracuda, that SSL VPN v2.5 was designed for ease-of-use and low support costs, meaning enterprises will not have to pay a per-user fee for their employees. VPN admins will be able to control user access into the VPN with the option to further secure enterprise resources by utilizing passwords and security questions. SSL VPN v2.5 can also be integrated with authentication systems including hardware tokens and RADIUS for additional security. Additionally, Barracuda is touting its latest mobile VPN as a way for users to gain access to their enterprise files in case of a natural disaster or other emergency event.

SSL VPN v2.5 is available now as a free upgrade for existing Barracuda customers on their current hardware platform with an active Energize Updates subscription. The mobile VPN is available separately at $699 USD for the appliance or $199 USD for Energize updates.
