Birch Communications has promoted one of its own to oversee the company’s financial management. The Atlanta-based voice, network, cloud and IT services provider has appointed Scott Murphy as its vice president and chief financial officer (CFO).

Murphy previously served as Birch’s vice president of accounting for the past five years. He will replace Edward R. James III, who was named CFO of global legal process outsourcing company DTI.

Birch noted that Murphy possesses more than 25 years of accounting and financial services experience and is expected to help the company bolster its long-term success strategy.

“[Murphy’s] strong technical skills, consistent hard work and ability to manage diverse teams make him a true fit for this critical role,” a Birch spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud.

Vincent M. Oddo, Birch’s CEO, also said Murphy “has been an integral part of [his company’s] success over the past five years.” Murphy assimilated the financial reporting, systems and personnel for 17 acquisitions during that time, Oddo said, and Birch anticipates that he will provide “continued and expanded contribution for many years to come.”

In addition, Birch announced that Rhand Williams will replace Murphy and serve as the company’s controller. Williams has 15 years of management experience, Birch noted, and will be responsible for managing the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions in his new role.

Birch continues to take steps to expand globally as well. For example, Birch named former IBM (IBM) Program Manager Michelle Ansley as its vice president and chief administration officer in January. A Birch insider told Talkin’ Cloud at the time that Ansley could help Birch as it focuses on growth through both organic sales and acquisitions this year.
