HP Enterprise Mobility Gets Update with Cloud-Based Management

Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) Enterprise Services is rolling out a cloud-based management product that was designed to provide customers with anytime, anywhere access to applications and data on any mobile device.

Dubbed HP Enterprise Cloud Services — Mobility, the new cloud-based management offering is meant to meet the demands of balancing the responsibilities and requirements of IT with the challenges and expectations of users, according to the company. Launched as part of the HP Converged Cloud portfolio, the cloud management offering comes equipped with features to make the deployment of tools and services for secure application access, file storage and sharing through multiple mobile platforms easy and flexible.

"Mobility in the workplace continues to be a key focus and concern for IT executives," said Pete Karolczak, senior vice president of HP Enterprise Services, in a prepared statement. "HP Enterprise Cloud Services — Mobility leverages HP's strong cloud portfolio by providing customers with a mobility service that provides the highest level of user experience and productivity while minimizing risk for IT."

The offering enables end users to download approved enterprise applications to their mobile devices using a secure storefront. They can also upload files to support collaboration and synchronize files between HP's cloud infrastructure and mobile devices. HP noted that data is encrypted in transit and at rest—from the device to the cloud infrastructure and back.

Like other offerings in the HP Enterprise Cloud Services portfolio, the mobility solution integrates HP technology with those from other major vendors in the space. In the end, everything is fully managed and maintained by HP with the goal of simplifying deployment and ongoing operations.

HP is making a variety of packages available to fit different mobility needs and budgets. Pricing is user-based rather than device-based, clicking nicely with the current state of mobile devices where nobody has just one any more.
