Not only is the iPhone creeping up on BlackBerry market share, now its stolen a medical condition too.
According to WTSP in Florida, a mortgage banker has become the first publicized victim of iPhone thumb,” formerly known as BlackBerry thumb.” She texted so much up to 12 hours per day that the tendons in her thumb had to be removed because they were irreversibly inflamed. Recovery will take two months or longer. (Maybe wireless operators should offer not only mobile phone insurance, but texting-injury coverage as well.)
That someone could text so much, incurring such injury is almost funny. Almost. Certainly the case highlights how ingrained texting has become to society. It also shows how much the iPhone has surpassed Research In Motions BlackBerry in terms of coolness and functionality. RIM has been trying to regain its once-dominant footing in the handset market but more and more, evidence that it could go the way of Palm Inc. seems to be growing more clear.
