LogMeIn apparently sees growing remote management and remote control opportunities in the tablet market. One example: The LogMeIn Ignition app for Android is now available pre-installed on ViewSonics’ ViewPad 7x Android tablet. Admittedly, ViewSonic is a relative underdog in the tablet market. But I think the LogMeIn-ViewSonic deal is a sign of things to come in the tablet and remote access markets.

LogMeIn Ignition has ranked among the top selling productivity apps on tablets. And at $29.99, it’s expensive compared to most tablet apps. But it will come free with the ViewSonic ViewPad 7x. That means opportunity — and challenges — for managed services providers.

On the one hand, LogMeIn Ignition’s growing popularity means small business customers are increasingly familiar with remote. On the downside, as remote control apps proliferate on iPads and Android tablets, it means MSPs have to focus like a laser on mobile device management (MDM) — closely watching which apps small business customers are running, and tracking apps that may introduce security vulnerabilities or overlooked doorways into a corporate network.

Most of the major RMM (remote monitoring and management) and PSA (professional services automation) software providers now offer Android and iPad apps. But powerful business-centric apps are also flooding the end-user market. Ride the wave and you’ll extend your managed services business practice beyond PC and laptop endpoints.
