A strong year for Motorola Mobility smartphone sales is about to get stronger as Verizon Wireless prepares to sell the Chicago-based company’s Droid Razr HD LTE and Razr Maxx HD LTE handsets aimed at channel partners and other business users, as well as the general consumer eight days from now. That’s the word from Droid Life sources who say the phones are coming to Big Red on Oct. 18. Rogers in Canada was the first North American carrier to start selling the Razr HD on Tuesday, Motorola Canada announced on its Twitter page.
Look for the Razr HD to sell for $199 and the Maxx HD for $299, the website predicts but there’s no official word from VzW on pricing or release date just yet.
Motorola has hung in there against Apple and Samsung in a year that has seen those two companies assert their dominance in the smartphone market. Motorola’s Droid Razr Maxx (non HD version) has consistently been among the top-three sellers at Verizon Wireless since its debut this past spring.
Both the Razr HD and the Razr Maxx HD are poised to deliver 4.7-inch screens with excellent resolution; 1GB of RAM; and dual-core, 1.5GHz processors. The biggest differences in the phones comes in battery life. The Razr Maxx HD is supposed to give you 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of video playback and 10 hours of video streaming without recharging; the Razr HD gives you 16 hours of talk time still not too shabby compared to a lot of competitors.
The devices are compatible with LTE networks and will come with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) installed, with 4.1 (Jelly Bean) upgrades pending by the end of the year.
