The HTC EVO smartphone, the first 4G phone on the Sprint network, debuted with solid reviews and decent sales. But a new report says an updated version of the EVO for Verizon Wireless could make the EVO, just a few months old, look, well old.
Boy Genius Report got its hands on some images of an HTC device that was leaked in an earlier report outlining Verizons potential devices releases for the fall. Among the details: a 4.3-inch screen, an 8-megapixel camera that includes a dual-LED flash, and a separate, front-facing camera. Although these specs are similar to the existing EVO, we expect upgrades that Verizon hopes will create some separation between the two phones. The outside of the new device is sleek, with brushed aluminum, and simply looks more sophisticated.
The source went as far to say that the phone will make Verizons Droid 2 which has been one of the best competitors to the iPhone in terms of sales to this point look like a kids toy.” No word yet on pricing or a release date.
And while many Android smartphones are still running on an old version of the software, this new phone will undoubtedly come equipped with Froyo Android version 2.2. The upgrade came to the Sprint EVO earlier this month and started rolling out to Verizon Droid Incredible users on Friday.
