Sure, so the Motorola/Verizon Wireless “Droid Does” commercials are an effective weapon in the Google Android mobile OS’s quest to vanquish the iPhone. But now a new warrior has arisen that might give Android devices like the Droid even more virility in the gadget wars: porn.

A company called MiKandi is constructing an “Adult App Store” for the Android platform. Any Android device can connect to the site and download a widget that will act like iTunes/App Store on the iPhone: your portal to content. In this case, any number of adult apps. As long as the content is legal, the company says, “the sky’s the limit.”

MiKandi says it will roll out the store for more mobile platforms in the future.

Apple is notoriously prudish when it comes to vetting content for the App Store, blocking anything it deems “offensive,” often in what some developers say is a capricious manner. It also has vehemently discouraged the creation of rogue app stores for non-Apple-sanctioned software. The Android Market – the “official” source for Android applications – is much looser in its requirements, but to date it has avoided ramping up true adult applications.

If the mobile Web mirrors the development of the wired Web, the porn factor could be a big traffic generator for Android devices, which pride themselves on a broader range of capabilities and personalization than that iconic, but tightly controlled, handset from Cupertino.
