While the attention surrounding Research in Motion lately has been focused on the new BlackBerry Torch, which debuted last week, the Canadian giant today doled out information about the latest addition to the Curve family, the BlackBerry Curve 3G. RIM says the Curve 3G supports high-speed 3G (HSDPA) networks around the world.

“The majority of people in the worldwide mobile phone market have yet to buy their first smartphone and the BlackBerry Curve 3G is designed to provide an extremely attractive and accessible choice that will help convince many of them to make the leap,” said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO at Research In Motion. “The new BlackBerry Curve 3G is a perfect choice for happily busy people who are looking for a user-friendly 3G smartphone to help them make the most of their day and to stay connected with their friends, family and co-workers.”

Features include:

  • full QWERTY keyboard

  • optical trackpad

  • 2.4-inch screen

  • 624MHz processor

  • built-in Wi-Fi, GPS

  • dedicated media keys

  • visual voice mail

  • camera with video-recording capabilities

  • microsSD/SDHC slot supporting 32GB memory cards

  • multitasking

The Curve 3G uses the BlackBerry 5 OS, but it’s BlackBerry 6-ready. You should see it offered for the device in a few months.

Pricing varies based on carrier. In the U.S., that carrier is T-Mobile, which has not unveiled a price just yet; however, the last version of the curve debuted for $50 with a two-year service agreement. Itll be available for purchase later this month.
