Those who’ve been waiting for a follow-up to the world’s most successful Android-based smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4, won’t have to wait much longer.
A Korean website is reporting that one of Samsung’s key executives confirmed that a Galaxy S5 announcement will come sometime at Mobile World Congress, to be held Feb. 24-27, in Barcelona. Dong-hoon Chang, VP and head of design strategy for the handset manufacturer, reportedly made the comment at a New Year’s party in Seoul.
The report goes on to say that the handset will be made of "new material," but didn’t go into specifics. Chang also said that the company is considering a flexible display for the device, SamMobile noted.
Take this rumor with a grain of salt, but consider that the timing is about right. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 on March 13, 2013, and it went on sale in late April. The S4 got stellar reviews, most notably for its eye-tracking technology capable of pausing a video if you look away from the screen.
Other speculation is that the S5 will come with a whopping 4GB of RAM.
