SAP SE (SAP) is expanding its Mobile Secure portfolio with the addition of mobile application management, the company announced this week. According to the company, the new localizable and secure enterprise app store is meant to make it easy for enterprises to provide mobile apps for their employees, partners and consumers by giving users access to a simplified and streamlined purchasing experience.
With the newly added mobile place feature, SAP users will be able to deliver apps, services and content for both managed and unmanaged services in an easy-to-use way, thus eliminating additional work for IT administrators. Managed users will have the added ability to identify when their device is out of compliance before installing new apps, with the app redirecting the user to download the appropriate mobile device management solution, regardless of the MDM vendor, according to the company. The mobile place solution is included for free with the purchase of SAP Mobile Secure portfolio.
"With the expansion of the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio on both managed and unmanaged devices, we are delivering the best mobile experience for our customers for consuming enterprise apps," said Senthil Krishnapillai, vice president, SAP Mobile Secure, in a statement. "For example, a large beverage company will use mobile place to make their mobile apps easily accessible to distributors, and a healthcare provider can provide a single mobile app to authorized patients. The discovery features of mobile place help ensure any corporate developed or licensed apps can be easily configured."
Mobile place is expected to give users of both MDM-managed and unmanaged devices a smoother user experience, while providing IT administrators with a central location to publish and manage apps and enterprise data, such as MDM, enterprise mobility management and mobile content management offerings. End users can also use mobile place to find new business-centric apps and set up their work-related services, including network access, corporate email and more.
