Splunk (SPLK) has made available Splunk App 3.1 for VMware (VMW) vSphere, allowing users additional operational visibility into their virtualized environments. In addition to increasing IT administrator’s awareness of the goings-on of their virtual machines, the latest version of the app also provides insight into how to correlate data throughout the available technology tiers.
According to Splunk, version 3.1 sports a host of new features including 200 out-of-the-box reports, the ability to instantly identify outliers for real-time triage and built-in correlation into storage systems including data from NetApp Data ONTAP. The features are designed allow users to increase their capacity and streamline workloads, effectively making their virtual machines more efficient, the company noted.
"Enterprise clouds based on VMware are transforming traditional data centers and driving the need for operational visibility across all infrastructure and application tiers,” said Leena Joshi, senior director of Infrastructure Operations Marketing at Splunk, in a prepared statement. “We are excited to play such a critical role in simplifying the way data center operations personnel gain real-time and historical insights into the virtualization layer, with the full context of application and infrastructure performance, health, capacity and security.”
Additionally, users of Splunk v3.1 are able to view interactive maps of their virtual environments to highlight problem areas. The technology also includes forecasting resources to view CPU, memory and disk requirements on VMware vCenter, ESXi hosts and other virtual machines. The company is offering a 60-day free trial version of the new app through its website for those looking to try before they buy.
