Verizon Confirms Motorola Droid 4 Release Date
The carrier is ready to roll out the highly anticipated LTE smartphone, aimed at both the business user and general consumer, and also is enticing new and existing customers with two-for-one smartphone sales and its double-the-data promotion.
Marketed to both business users and the general consumers, Verizon Wireless is just about ready to sell the highly anticipated Motorola Droid 4.
Touted as a smartphone for both work and play, the Droid 4 was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month. Customers will be able to get their hands on the device on Friday, Feb. 10, at Verizon Wireless stores and online.
VzW and Motorola describe the Droid 4 as the thinnest and most powerful 4G QWERTY smartphone on the market today. It features a dual-core, 1.2GHz processor; runs on Android 2.3, with a 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade coming; and has a five-row QWERTY keyboard with a PC-like layout. The keys are lit on their edges, making typing possible in the dark. It’s compatible with Verizon’s LTE network that now covers more than 200 million Americans.
Other consumer-friendly features include: 4-inch display; 8MP camera with 1080p HD video capture; front-facing camera for video chat; and a 4G LTE mobile hotspot supporting up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Business users can plug the Droid 4 into an HDTV and present to a room full of potential customers right from the phone. VzW says professionals can also combined the handset with the Lapdock 500 and its 14-inch display to create a full-featured mobile office.
The Droid 4 will set you back $200 with a new, two-year service agreement. You’ll need a Nationwide Talk plan starting at $40 per month and a smartphone data package starting at $30 per month for 2GB of data.
Verizon Wireless is also bringing back a popular incentive to get new and existing data-loving customers in their stores Friday. The carrier will give LTE smartphone customers double the data 4GB instead of 2GB if they buy a phone and sign up for a $30 data plan along with a voice and text plan. In addition, VzW is enticing those interested in buying a Motorola Droid Razr or Razr MAXX with a two-for-one promotion.
