Neutral data center company Cologix Inc. announced Tuesday that former Comcast channel exec Matt Wilson has been named the Denver- based company’s first-ever channel chief.

As vice president of channel sales, Wilson will be responsible for building Cologix’s North American partner program. Cologix already had some success with ad hoc channel sales supported by local sales teams, Wilson told Channel Partners in an advance interview.  He credited senior management with recognizing the opportunity to accelerate channel sales by developing a formal, unified program.

The new program will offer partners — master agents, agents, resellers and real estate brokers  — access to network-neutral interconnection in Tier 2 markets throughout North America. Cologix offers more than 350 network choices from data centers in Columbus, Dallas, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. It currently serves more than 750 carrier, managed services, cloud, media, content, financial services and enterprise customers.

Since some of the pieces are already in place, Wilson said his first task is to normalize the experience across geographies with standardized processes and contracts. Because Cologix does not compete with its partners, a hallmark of the new program will be channel integration with compensation for both direct and indirect sales teams, Wilson said. He expects to rollout the new program in 30-45 days.

Wilson spent the past three years as senior director of partner channel management at Comcast Business, where he was part of the team that put together the Comcast Business solutions provider program.  Prior to that he spent six years as director of product management for the cable giant. Wilson has also held senior product management posts at Intrado and Level 3 Communications.

“Matt has proven success in building and leading channel programs and fostering the necessary relationships to ensure success,” said Jay Newman, chief sales officer for Cologix, in a press statement. “As Tier 2 markets become more important in the global network map, we are enjoying significant growth in our business and we look forward to Matt helping us continue that trajectory.”

Telecom agents may be glad to find a familiar face heading the Cologix channel. “We are pleased to work with Matt again in his new role,” said Brian Miller, co-founder of master agency Bridgepointe Technologies. “We have placed several clients with Cologix based on their desirable footprint and customer-centric flexibility. Bridgepointe applauds Cologix’s recognition of needs of the channel community and commitment to enhance its program accordingly.”
