Distributor Ingram Micro Inc. this week promoted Alain Monie to the position of CEO.

Monie has worked for Ingram Micro since January 2003, holding various executive positions. He accepted the role of president and COO until resigning in 2010 to become CEO of another company. But last November, he returned to Ingram Micro as president and COO.

Monie, who will retain his role of president, succeeds Gregory Spierkel. Spierkel led Ingram Micro for a little more than six years; he joined the company in 1997. He said he is leaving to spend more time with his family.

"I’m confident the company is in capable and experienced hands," Spierkel said in a prepared statement. "It’s the right time to leave."

Spierkel will stay with the company until April 15 to help with the management transition.

Ingram Micro distributes IT products through VARs.
