Motorolas Liska Takes a Licking, Keeps on Ticking

The corporate intrigue just keeps getting intriguier and intriguier at Motorola Inc. (MOT).

The cell phone maker this week launched new accusations that former CFO Paul Liska destroyed evidence of his activities between the time he took the job and the time he was fired. Motorola said it needed that documentation to combat claims that Liska was fired for being a whistleblower.

Liska was fired in January, less than a year after joining Motorola; he had been hired to help restructure the company. But Liska said last week Motorola fired him because he discovered the company had intentionally deflated financial forecasts. Now Motorola says that’s not true, that Liska was fired for “willful spoliation of relevant, material evidence.” That’s according to public court documents.
