Doreen Toben, CFO of Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) since 2002, will retire later this year.

Toben likely will step down in mid-2009. Verizon said Thursday it will name a replacement soon.

Toben, 59, leaves as Verizon continues to lose landline users but add wireless customers, especially thanks to the recent Alltel takeover.
