Is the Mac platform gaining more traction in businesses? It’s a question I’ve come back to year after year, and for the past few years I think the answer has been “Yes.” That’s not to say that you’ll see only glowing Apples in every workplace. But the platform has gained momentum over the past few years, and here’s the most recent evidence.
More IT management vendors have added support for the platform, or pledged to add it. For instance, Amtel’s move to add Mac endpoint management to the devices supported by its mobile device management endpoint management solution this week.
And Amtel is only the most recent vendor in the space to do so. Over the past several months we’ve covered several vendors in the MSP space who have added support or pledged to add support. Here’s a quick look at them.
LabTech added support in May 2012
Continuum added a Mac Agent in June 2012
Servoyant in Oct 2012 said Mac was on its roadmap
In January 2013 virtualization specialist Parallels announced it would bring Mac management to Microsoft Systems Center
Just last month, ManageEngine announced the addition of Apple Mac patch management to its desktop central management platform
Kaseya has frequently cited its Mac support as a differentator
The Dell KACE appliance team is trying to win corporate Mac management business, too.
There are also plenty of MSPs who have expanded their operations to support Macs in customer businesses.
So what about you. Have you seen more of your customers adding more Macs into their mix of end points? And as the support for Windows XP disappears in the next year, are your clients considering replacing those Windows machines with Macs?
