TeamViewer Names Ex-NetApp Exec as CEO

TeamViewer has appointed former Swisscom and NetApp (NTAP) executive Andreas Koenig as its CEO. Here's everything you need to know.

TeamViewer has appointed former Swisscom and NetApp (NTAP) executive Andreas Koenig as its CEO. Koenig replaces Holger Felgner, who will continue to serve on TeamViewer’s advisory board.

Koenig most recently served as head of Swisscom IT Services AG. He also spent 16 years at NetApp, where he helped the data management and cloud storage solutions company grow to 2,000 employees and increase its revenues to roughly $2 billion.

So what should managed service providers (MSPs) expect from TeamViewer going forward? Koenig told MSPmentor that he plans to work with TeamViewer’s management team “to ensure that quality at TeamViewer always maintains the highest possible standard.”

“With the help of the management staff and TeamViewer’s dedicated employees, I intend to propel TeamViewer into the next phase of global growth strategy. Together, we will ensure that TeamViewer continues on its successful growth path, so we can accomplish our corporate objectives,” he said.

TeamViewer advisory board member Jörg Rockenhäuser added that Koenig “is a highly experienced manager in the technology sector and is ready to lead the company.” He pointed out that Koenig possesses “a wealth of expertise in the technology sector and longstanding experience with Silicon Valley-based companies, [which] make him the ideal CEO to continue building on the company’s success.”

More than 200 million users currently leverage TeamViewer’s software, and TeamViewer continues to expand its portfolio as well.

For example, TeamViewer launched the TeamViewer App for Outlook last month. This app enables TeamViewer users to start a chat, video call, presentation or remote control session from within Microsoft Outlook.

TeamViewer is one of several tools that can be used for remote control sessions with client computers. LogMeIn provides another such tool, but the company pulled its freemium version a year ago and increased prices on other versions a few months ago. Another remote control tool, ScreenConnect, was acquired by ConnectWise earlier this year and integrated into LabTech Software’s platform.

Will Koenig make any changes to the TeamViewer freemium and other pricing models. It’s unclear. But we’ll be watching the situation and keep you posted.
