CoreDial took advantage of Teams direct routing to allow customers to use its CoreNexa UCaaS capabilities on the Teams platform. Those capabilities include three-way calling and call transfering. If you’re just packaging up a generic solution and cookie-cutting it for each customer, you’re missing out on revenue opportunity.
These days, customers want solutions that are geared toward their industry and specific business challenges. Different verticals, company sizes, target markets and so forth require different levels and types of customization. Make sure your RMM can handle it, says Tim Shoop, CEO of Digital Boardwalk.
Speaking of automating time-intensive processes, your RMM absolutely has to have a mature patching platform that allows for third-party patching, says Jeremy Reynoldson, president of Bralin Technology Solutions.
With the number of endpoints that MSPs are managing these days, it’s nigh impossible to keep up with all the code changes to applications and software tools in order to keep your clients’ machines up-to-date. Make sure you have a patch management process built into your RMM.
It isn’t all about the tech. Your RMM is one of the most critical components of your solution stack, serving as the foundation of your mix of tools.
It’s difficult for customers to understand why your chosen RMM and associated integrations are the best in the business, and since it’s so technical, it can sometimes be hard to explain. Make sure your RMM provider is actively helping you educate and sell your customers on your chosen solution stack.

Because each RMM tool is best suited for different types of MSPs, the community of RMM users for each provider generally share a lot of characteristics. The best way to learn is by talking to peers, seeing what they’ve tried successfully, and learning from their mistakes.
Community is critical to an MSP’s success, so find an RMM partner with an active, engaged community of users and then get involved, advises Richardson.
An RMM tool is supposed to make your life and your customers’ lives easier and more efficient. You don’t want them to wait for you to drag yourself to their offices to reset a password or generate a report, so you sure don’t want to waste those resources you’re saving by taking up all of the resources on their machine, says Shoop.
They need the speed and compute power to handle processes and workflows on their own; orwise, you’ll be getting so many calls that you may not save any time at all.
Every RMM provider has a warranty lookup and update system (if they don’t, run).
Bob Coppedge, owner of Simplex-IT, says to look carefully at the fine print. What integrations do they support? Does it allow you to remove warranty from certain machines if you need? Is it easy to hook up to your RMM platform? Don’t be caught unawares when it comes to having a guarantee on the machines that make you money.
