In the education, healthcare and hospitality markets, quiet comes at a premium, yet networking equipment can be notoriously loud. But Avaya‘s latest Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) 3500 series offers whisper-quiet functionality for verticals and small businesses alike that don’t need any extra noise, volume- or installation-wise.

The line consists of six Fast and Gigabit Ethernet switches available in 10 and 24-port configurations, and offers automated setup with Avaya IP Office for deployment of unified communications features including messaging, videoconferencing and presence. When the environment needs to be kept quiet, the company also offering fanless versions for noise-sensitive environments such as classrooms or hospitality suites.

Enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE+) is available on some models to power advanced IP phones, wireless access points and video surveillance cameras. The switches range in price from $695 to $2,395 for the top-of-the-line appliance.

In addition, Avaya‘s Stackable Chassis Architecture will be enabled on these models in a future software release, with the ability to stack up to eight ERS 3500 units for enhanced network availability and up to 80Gbps of virtual backplane capacity.

“SMBs want enterprise-class functionality, but they want price points that make sense for small locations,” said Camille Campbell, Avaya’s product marketing manager for Ethernet switching. “That’s what we’re trying to hit.”
