Ingram Micro apparently is the first tech distributor to hop on board the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s “Climate Leaders” government-industry program. In short, Ingram promises not to pollute so much. Read on for the eco-friendly details…

The plan is all about “measurable reduction of greenhouse gas emission” and part of that is also using more sustainable materials and recycled goods. Ingram noted that corrugated cardboard cartons they use are 39% recycled content, and all their content after use is 100% recyclable for other paper uses. Ingram also noted that they recycle plastic and reuse packaging pallets while stressing that 95% of their US fleet carriers are EPA SmartWay certified.

So what do EPA partners have to do to get the EPA’s ‘green-thumb-up’ of approval? Just follow these simple steps:

  • Aggressive goal-setting

  • Ongoing measurement and regular progress reporting

  • Benchmarking

  • Best-practice counseling

  • Technical assistance

There were no concrete details on what exactly each of these points specifically related to, but simply seems a way of meeting or not exceeding limits on use, reuse and a focus on incorporating more eco-friendly materials.

Lastly, Ingram noted that over the next 10 years, they’ll save $3.25 million due to a “lighting retrofit project” in just one singular logistic center. Overall, it’s part of an ongoing trend in “Green-IT.”
