Lenovo Releases Sub-$600 Workstation

Say hello to the ThinkStation E20. It's  not just another desktop from Lenovo, it's actually a complete workstation solution, under $600 bucks, and it's environmentally friendly, to boot. If that sounds like it'll be a paltry granola burning machine, you'd be wrong. Lenovo is positioning this thing to do some serious content creation. Are you interested?

Lenovo Releases Sub-$600 Workstation

Lenovo E20Say hello to the ThinkStation E20. It’s  not just another desktop from Lenovo, it’s actually a complete workstation solution, under $600 bucks, and it’s environmentally friendly, to boot. If that sounds like it’ll be a paltry granola burning machine, you’d be wrong. Lenovo is positioning this thing to do some serious content creation. Are you interested?

If you’re confused as to why this is a big deal, let me break it down for you. Traditionally, workstation PCs cost an arm and a leg. Companies on a budget often opt for high-to-mid-end desktop solutions as replacements, but in reality, they’re not exactly the correct tool for the job. Lenovo has designed the E20 to  to do content creation, computer aided design and all be up to snuff and while leaving some greenbacks in your customers’ wallets.

That being said, here’s the caveat: not all models are actually sub-$600, but it starts off that way. So what can you get in your new shiny workstation?

  • Intel Core i3 and i5 Processors

  • Pentium processors for the cost-conscious

  • Xeon 3400 for the purist or enthusiast.

  • Intel Core HD graphics

  • NVIDIA Quadro discrete graphics up to the FX1800

  • Support for Error Correcting Code DDR3 memory

  • Certifications from leading ISVs like Autodesk, Siemens and Dassault Systemes[sic]

Lenovo is also showing off how much they care about mother earth. They’re clamming over 50 percent of the plastic content comes from post-consumer recycled materials. (Could explain the blah aesthetic, but hey…) For the power-conscious, it’s touting a 80Plus Bronze Power supply and has achieved a Gold-rating by the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool. Plus, it’s GREENGUARD certified.

The news announcement comments that products are “Coming mid-February with models starting at approximately $599.” So, again, we’ll have to see how close they’ll actually come to that price point. But either way, it sounds like it has the potential to be a solid deal for end-customers.
