Lenovo wants to help you boost your vertical limit (if your vertical is a graphics processing-intensive market such as manufacturing, architecture and design or health care) with the release of the ThinkStation S30, C30 and D30, workstations equipped with Intel Xeon E5 processors and specialized for professionals working in computer-aided design (CAD). They come with a choice of Intel Xeon E5 1600/2600 processors for faster multi-core processing, Nvidia Quadro graphics cards and Maximus support utilizing Nvidia Telsa compute cards.

The ThinkStations also support up to 256GB of DDR3 memory and improved file transfer rates with USB 3.0 technology, and comprehensive independent software vendor (ISV) certification including the latest versions of ISV applications across vertical markets. The 30 Series will be available April 9, 2012, with pricing starting at $1,029 for the S30 model. The C30 is priced starting at $1,399, while the D30 starts at $1,549.

The C30 is designed for those in financial services, CAD and digital content creators, and includes two Xeon E5 2600 processors, Quadro 6000 or dual Quadro 5000 graphics and the ability to fit up to 14 workstations in a 42U rack or four C30s under a standard trading floor desk. The D30, meanwhile, is powered by Xeon E5 2600 processors of up to eight cores, along with up to two Quadro 6000 cards, and is designed to help 3D product design and animation professionals push their processing limits. Finally, the S30 is aimed at budget-conscious 2D and 3D digital content creators, users of midrange CAD applications and finance and medical professionals.

The ThinkStations also come with a host of green IT features, including Energy Star 5.2 certification. The green-savvy design also extends to the exterior, which is fabricated with up to 65 percent recycled materials.

Lenovo’s director of Thinkstation products and vertical solutions, Rob Herman, said he wants to send a message to partners that although the ThinkStation market is relatively small, it’s still a very target-rich market in terms of the average unit revenue that can be generated. He added Lenovo is standing by to help partners push their limits.

“It’s a great revenue opportunity for our channel partners, as profit margins are higher because the price tag is higher,” he said. “I’ve got a team of technical engineers assigned by vertical, and we’re here to help. If channel partners are finding opportunities beyond their expertise we can guide that partner to help close the sale.”
