McCorcle: In my first entrepreneurial experience, between the ages of 12 to 14, I created and sold jewelry featuring the Shout of Joy symbol to friends and churches. Shout of Joy is a registered trademark my family owns, and jewelry continues to be created under the license.
The VAR Guy says: It sounds like you have a very creative family!
McCorcle: I drove it as a teenager—a 1964 Alfa Romeo Spider. (Thanks for letting me borrow it, Dad!)
The VAR Guy says: We bet all your friends always wanted a ride home from school with you!
McCorcle: Santa Fe, New Mexico—I love the high desert.
The VAR Guy says: The VAR Guy mostly knows the desert landscapes of New Mexico from watching “Breaking Bad,” but we can only imagine how beautiful they would be to see in person.
McCorcle: “The Other Side of Innovation: Solving the Execution Challenge,” by Govindarajan and Trimble
The VAR Guy says: “The Other Side of Innovation” puts the focus on the importance of actually pulling off a hugely innovative
deal, which is an aspect that often goes unnoticed, according to the authors. In this book, Govindarajan and Trimble explore some of the other unseen processes involved in executing a major project, from forming the right team to measuring progress.
McCorcle: “Wearable Art,” A handmade three-stack gold ring.
The VAR Guy says: This is a pretty unique find. The VAR Guy is always fascinated by sites such as Etsy and Square Market, where creative people can come together and sell homemade items like this.
McCorcle: House of Cards
The VAR Guy says: This popular show, based on a British series of the same name, follows corrupt congressman Frank Underwood as he schemes his way through the American political system. Actor Kevin Spacey has been largely renowned for his intimidating and captivating performance as Underwood.
McCorcle: An Astronaut
The VAR Guy says: This was also The VAR Guy’s secret ambition! We gave it up, however, when we realized we didn’t like heights, spinning in circles, going fast or copious amounts of exercise.
McCorcle: “Swiss Family Robinson” … Outdoor family adventure, and really, who wouldn’t love to live in a treehouse and race on ostriches!!
The VAR Guy says: This one is truly a classic. We bet you’ve visited the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse in Disney’s Magic Kingdom at least a few dozen times.
