Troup: I was the human resources manager at a private-label soap and bleach manufacturing plant, Kleen Brite Laboratories. Just call me Mr. Clean.
The VAR Guy says: Clean and serene! We're glad to hear your career got off to such a squeaky clean start.
Troup: The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque—travel up and down the lake house road in style!
The VAR Guy says: Stylish and plenty of room for the family—a good choice all around!
Troup: Turks & Caicos. Have you seen what winter looks like in upstate New York?
The VAR Guy says: We agree, the weather has been terrible! We could use a little island vacation ourselves with all this snow "downstate."
Troup: "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand. It offers universal lessons that apply to life and work—the strength of the human spirit.
The VAR Guy says: A popular pick among Channel Chiefs, Hillenbrand’s biography of Louis Zamperini was recently turned into a movie directed by Academy award-winning actress Angelina Jolie.
Troup: A high-end elliptical trainer. What can I say, I am married to a fitness trainer!
The VAR Guy says: Sometimes a big splurge like this is the best way to motivate yourself to work out, since you have already made a financial commitment to exercising every day. Bravo!
Troup: "Game of Thrones." What is taking iTunes so long to release Season 4?
The VAR Guy says: Political dramas like "The West Wing" might have political intrigue, but "Game of Thrones" has all of that plus dragons. 'nuff said.
Troup: I actually wanted to be a ski patrolman in Colorado when I graduated from college … then life got in the way!
The VAR Guy says: Very cool! You must have been a good skier to want to work on the slopes.
Troup: Without a doubt, "The Karate Kid." The original, not the sequels. Mr. Miyagi was “The Man.” It sparked a lifelong interest and passion in me for traditional Okinawan karate.
The VAR Guy says: “Wax on, wax off”—this movie is so chock-full of classic lines, it should be officially placed in an '80s movie hall of fame. We still practice our crane kicks down by the beach from time to time, just to stay focused.
