Harvey: My first professional job was product manager at Azlan (A Pan European Distributor) where I was focused on Microsoft and Novell Licensing, which then led to introducing new vendors into Europe such as Checkpoint and Security Dynamics. It was a fast-paced environment (think: a trading floor), but a fantastic introduction to technology overall.
The VAR Guy says: Working at Azlan (which is owned by Tech Data) must have been a great way to jump feet-first into the IT channel, but it couldn’t have been without its challenges. Certainly not a first job for the faint of heart.
Harvey: A Ford F150 Raptor. Being a Brit in America, these big boy toys are really appealing to me.
The VAR Guy says: This is a big truck even by American standards—the last one we saw looked big enough to eat The VAR Guy’s car (with room left over for dessert).
Harvey: Before joining Scality, I spent a couple of months working on my golf game at Lake Tahoe. The courses there are amazing and I highly recommend them to any golfers out there.
The VAR Guy says: This is a great place to kick back and relax while working on your golf game. However, Lake Tahoe does make for a pretty big water hazard, so be careful not to shoot too far off course!
Harvey: “Like a Virgin.” It’s a great read—for thinking outside the box, as well as keeping true to a belief.
The VAR Guy says: This is another popular pick among Channel Chiefs. Richard Branson’s unorthodox story of success is both a great primer for budding entrepreneurs as well as an altogether entertaining story of a man with a passion for business.
Harvey: Living in the Bay Area, I wanted to go the extra mile and splurge on a really nice Weber grill. What’s better than grilling?
The VAR Guy says: Let us know when you plan on firing up the grill and we’ll be sure to bring a six pack and some burgers!
Harvey: I’m watching “Alaska: The Last Frontier.” This glimpse into Alaskan living is a nice, relaxing break away from my world of technology, planes and fast-paced business growth.
The VAR Guy says: This Discovery Channel reality series follows the Kilcher family (who just so happen to be related to singer Jewel) as they work their homestead in Homer, Alaska. The show is currently in its fourth season.
Harvey: I wanted to be a chef. I’ve always liked creating things, and food has always been an area that produces memories, emotion and great enjoyment for me. Not to say I am good at it, but I like trying.
The VAR Guy says: Now that you have your new grill you can feel free to experiment with all sorts of culinary creations in the comfort of your own home!
Harvey: “Top Gun.” It’s an all-time great movie. And if you asked me what my second top career choice was as a kid, I’d have to say a pilot.
The VAR Guy says: We still can’t resist singing along to “Danger Zone” whenever we hear it on the radio thanks to this awesome ’80s flick.
