This week, we sat down with Larry Newman, director of Sales at Axis Communications North America, to learn more about the man behind the Swedish IT security and surveillance company's channel program.

Newman: My first job was when I was 11 years old (in the 1960s) when I was a paper boy for the Reported Dispatch (local daily newspaper) delivering papers door to door in my neighborhood. While I did not realize it at the time, this perhaps taught me a bit about distribution & business.
The VAR Guy says: Extra, Extra! Axis Channel Chief Larry Newman begins career as humble paperboy! Read all about it on page A3.
Newman: I love cars and have always had a passion for them. I would have a difficult identifying a single car as I have so many I would love. However, if I were forced to choose one, it would have to be 1961 Jaguar Series 1 XKE Convertible. To me, this car is art.
The VAR Guy says: British engineering at its finest. This car looks both elegant and fast; a potent combination, if you ask us.
Newman: As I travel extensively for work my vacations rarely involve travel. My last vacation was helping my son totally gut and install a new kitchen in his home in the South end of Boston.
The VAR Guy says: Sometimes spending time with loved ones is better than a vacation anyway—who needs the open road when you have good company?
Newman: I have always been a reader of Non-Fiction. The last book I read that I have recommended to many is "Ninja Innovation," written by Gary Shapiro, president of CEA (Consumer Electronics Association).
The VAR Guy says: While Shapiro's popular book on the essential business strategies of companies including Google and Amazon isn't about actual ninjas, it's still a compelling read and a good way to learn from some of the best and brightest companies in the world.
Newman: I recently purchased a “used truck” to replace my 1997 Dodge Ram pickup that finally died at close to 200,000 miles.
The VAR Guy says: IT definitely sounds like you got your money's worth out of your old truck, making this a totally justifiable splurge purchase. Well done, sir.
Newman: I am not “addicted” to any TV shows but I routinely watch shows such as “Jeopardy," "Antiques Roadshow," "Rehab Addict," "Counting Cars," "Hardcore Pawn," "Storage Wars," and "American Restoration.”
The VAR Guy says: As a "Jeopardy!" fan, we were hoping you might answer that in the form of a question. But we won't deduct any points, since all of these are pretty great shows.
Newman: I always wanted to be the next Jacques Cousteau (marine biologist and adventurer). I originally majored in marine biology in college.
The VAR Guy says: Great choice! However, you still get to swim with the sharks—they just happen to be salespeople instead of actual sharks.
Newman: My all-time favorite movie is “Vanishing Point.” It followed the adventure of James Kowalski, an ex-race car driver and a former Army Ranger as he raced across the country eluding police and others to join his wife who was giving birth to his child. I am probably one of the very few who even remember the movie but it made an impact on me I have never forgotten.
The VAR Guy says: This sounds like a great movie, in the vein of "Death Race 2000" or "Smokey and the Bandit." Sign us up!
