SafeNet Names Former BMC Exec to Fill CEO Slot

Hansen, an information security and cloud veteran, will become a member of SafeNet’s board of directors. He is tasked with building on the company’s growth in data protection for cloud and virtual markets.

“Dave is a known innovator within the security industry that brings strong strategic and execution skills, a proven ability to lead high-performing management teams and a successful track record of driving growth for multinational corporations,” said Dave Fishman, a member of SafeNet’s board.

Hansen has a solid background, catching on with BMC nearly a year ago when the business service management software company bought Numara, developer of service and asset management solutions. Hansen had been Numara’s president and chief executive, noted for creating and driving the vendor’s cloud strategy.

Prior to Numara, Hansen had a nine-year tenure at CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA), overseeing its enterprise solutions, cloud strategy and cloud product lineup. He also led the company’s security business unit where he was credited with delivering new versions of enterprise identity and access management solutions. In addition, Hansen served as CA’s chief information officer (CIO), implementing its global IT strategy, applications development and IT compliance.

“With SafeNet’s market-leading data protection and rights management portfolios, and the recent introduction of game-changing cloud and virtualization products, the company is set to lead the way in securing access and data for the cloud and from the cloud,” said Hansen.

Fedde, who worked at SafeNet for 11 years, was a key player in building SafeNet’s market presence in the federal government and commercial sectors. The company currently maintains some 25,000 customers in commercial enterprises and government agencies. Fedde is credited with helping to turn SafeNet into a pure-play data protection and rights management company from its previous posture as a security tools vendor.

SafeNet provided no word about where Fedde is headed but he drew hefty praise from Fishman, who said, “Under his leadership, SafeNet significantly enhanced its market-leading product portfolios and positioned itself to capitalize on the fast-growing data protection for cloud and virtual markets.”
